I walked down the familiar beach, the moon shining down on me. The waves were gently pulsating, the salty air had become so familiar, and I loved it. Quietly I crept up to Justin's house and spread my wings. I flew up to his window and hovered in that special way I had, knocking on his window gently. Finally a light came on in his room, but there were two figures in there. One was a girl. And Justin didn't have a sister. I flew away, perching on his roof and looking over the side. The shades drew back and the window opened, Justin leaning out to look around.
"Who is it, Iukekini?" The girl sounded our age, and I kept my tears back.
"I-- It couldn't be Saria, she left."
"Forget her. She's never coming back."
"Elika, I told you. She promised to come back. She will always keep her promise."
"Iukekini, I like you. A lot. But why must you chase after this girl? She does not care for you like you think. She is a filthy liar."
I heard Justin sigh, and I felt anger spread from my core. I jumped down, in all my mutan glory, and hovered at his window. "You." I pointed at Elika. She was a pretty hawaiian girl, but I was not going to let an exotic beauty steal the reason I came back to Hawaii.
My mouth was on fire, literally, as I pointed at her, hovering like a demonic freak. I didn't look like Saria. I looked like a mutant freak. She would never recognize me. "Sinner. Folly."
Justin backed away as Elika hid behind him. But he moved aside. "No, Elika, I won't let you shield yourself with me. I don't care about you." He moved away and I crawled into the room through the window. I was breathing heavily, and small bursts of fire came from my mouth. My face was covered with scales as I moved towards Elika, fire and hate in my firey dragon eyes. She screamed and ran out the door. I watched for several seconds after she was gone, then went to the window and watched as she hopped into her car and peeled away. Only when she was gone did the fire in my belly go out. I morphed back to normal and sagged against the wall. My little show had drained what little energy I had gained back when I slept after my fight.
I felt Justin's arms around me, and I snuggled into him, resting my head against his chest as he held me.
"You didn't give up on me."
"Never." The one word soothed me and I slowly drifted off to sleep in his arms.
The next morning I woke with the sun on my face. I was still in Justin's arms, but he was still asleep. His olive skin matched his dark hair, and I stared at him. He was so gorgeous. I reached up a hand and brushed some hair away from his eyes, which slowly fluttered open. We smiled at each other for a minute before he leaned down and kissed me. Before I had left we had kissed for over a minute, and I had loved that kiss. But waking up in his arms and then kissing him was way better. Way better.
Finally we broke apart, and I lay my head on his chest again, sighing happily.
"Is Evanna and the others here?"
I sighed again, playing with a piece of string on his shirt. "No. After I saved Evanna and Jeremy, we went to Montana and met up with another girl. Then everything just went weird and we all broke apart. I don't even know why. But I do know that Evanna and the others weren't going to come with me back here, so I came alone. Untill Megan decided to follow me. She'll be here soon. And she knows where to find me."
"Yup." Megan's voice broke us apart, and I stood up hasitly, brushing myself off.
"Don't ever do that again, and you have no idea how much trouble you're in, missy." My eyes went dragon again and I took a step toward her. She leaned back a bit. Megan was perched on the windowsill, and she tried to stay balanced while I advanced. "It is so dangerous for you to have followed me. You could have at least met up with me before I took off over the ocean. It's a long flight, and you could have gotten tired and ended up two thousand leagues under the sea." I was both mad at her, and glad that she had survived. "But you proved yourself so strong by doing that, hun!" She got down and we huged, me rubbing her wings on her back, smoothing the feathers down.
"Hi Megan." Justin waved at her, still a bit embarrased.
"Hi Iukekini!" Megan gave him a quick hug, then rubbed her stomach a bit. "I need food. And sleep. Sleep and food. Food and sleep. Food first. Definently food first." I laughed and pulled her to me again. "We'll get something to eat. I'll see you later, Justin." I kissed him again, then pushed Megan out the window, making sure she was high in the sky before running back to Justin. We hugged, then kissed again, and only Megan clearing her throat outside his window broke us apart. I leaped out the window, already half morphed, and Megan and I flew to a little cafe we had been to many times before.
